Artist's Statement

A representational oil painter, Jeannie Breeding is especially intrigued with atmospheric landscape conditions. As a lover of the outdoors, she hikes, snowshoes and cross country skis in Colorado’s backcountry. She’s never without her camera, capturing special moments in time for her paintings. Also a plein air painter, Jeannie can frequently be found outdoors painting on location.

“She transports onlookers to far-away lands and places them on the spot where she once stood, in the warm morning light or at a location that feels so real it reaches into ones soul. You can feel the moist air on your skin or the cool fog whisking across your face. She brings more than a unique style and skill to her paintings. A Colorado Springs resident since 1975, Jeannie is originally from St. Cloud, Minnesota. She received her B.S. degree in art from St. Cloud State University and her M.A.T. degree from Colorado College. After teaching art in Colorado Springs for 28 years, she now devotes the majority of her time to painting, in her studio or en plein air, to enjoying the outdoors, and to travel.

Jeannie has traveled to six continents to photograph scenes for her paintings. She has won numerous awards for her work and her paintings have been in National as well as International shows. Jeannie Breeding and her artwork are featured in the May 2010 American Artist Magazine article, “Rediscover Nature with Landscape Painting,” by M. Stephen Doherty.

The glow of the sunlight on the mesa vegetation caught my eye on this early morning plein air paint out. The dirt road was a nice lead in to the mountains in the background.

“Rim Light, Rio Pueblo”

The sunlight was just perfect on the rim of the Rio Pueblo Gorge near Taos, NM for a morning of plein air painting. There was still a little morning haze settled into the gorge, creating some beautiful atmospheric conditions.
