Francine D’Antuono is a University of Maryland graduate with a degree in fine art and applied design. She has enjoyed a long successful career as an award winning illustrator and graphic designer. In 2005, upon purchasing a parcel of land in western Montgomery County, Maryland, Francine and her husband opened Fernwood Designs, a husband and wife fine carpentry business and art studio.
After settling into horse country, Francine got back in the saddle and was motivated to start painting again. Her interaction with the local horses provided inspiration. Their markings, movement, and attitude greatly influence her images. Wildlife and nature are also subjects that she approaches with a subtle sense of whimsy. Francine’s main medium is Gouache (opaque watercolors) on fine heavyweight watercolor paper. Her signature palette is rich in earth tones with glowing lights and dramatic shadows. All of Francine’s original paintings are custom framed in exotic hardwood frames handcrafted by her husband Rich. Each presentation is a one of a kind frame that contributes to the subject matter of each painting.
