I love to paint horses and color. Currently, I am fascinated with draft horses, carriage horses, mustangs, mules and the quirky donkey. I really enjoy interpreting the personality and majesty of these noble animals with color and dynamic brushwork. Beyond equines, I also enjoy painting bovines, dogs, wildlife and people with character. I work in oil paints using a loose, colorful style with bold brushwork. I usually start my paintings with a series of compositional sketches and subject research. (I love to learn about my subjects!) I find the more I know the bolder I can be with the paint. After the initial proportion and value lay in, I get to really have fun with the paint by pushing the color and playing with the brushwork by combining glazing techniques with dry brush and big, juicy bold strokes.
