As a fifth-generation native Texan, and a fourth-generation artist, Sharon Markwardt naturally strives to be a pioneer in her artwork. Though she still enjoys watercolors, abstract work, and commissions, a few years ago her horse nudged (actually, threw) her into oils and the Western genre. “Everything clicked. I’m fascinated by the colorful characters and gear. For me, cowboy boots symbolize bold independence. I also love being able to paint the longhorns and horses I can see from my own house. The way animals interact with us and each other is inspiring.”
She has since resumed painting in watercolor as well as oils, and worked to achieve a consistent style in two very different media. The results are award-winning paintings with strong design and bright color usage, just a bit on the modern edge of the West.
Sharon has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and is currently represented by Prellop Fine Art and Your Private Collection galleries in Texas.
