I am an avid bird enthusiast. My formal training is in Biology and Chemistry. In my early years, I worked as an analytical/research chemist and volunteered as a science teacher with the United States Peace Corps, in Botswana, Africa. I now work closely with birds as an ornithologist, bird trainer, wildlife rehabilitator, naturalist, avian field researcher, and wildlife artist.
My enthusiasm for birds is apparent in my art, and I utilize my intimate knowledge of birds to represent them. The bird is often in the forefront of my paintings and I take liberties with my interpretation of them to emphasize certain traits, ‘looks’, colors, patterns, perspectives or behaviors; in the hope I will spark a new awareness of birds with the viewer. I am a life-long educator and I do not stop teaching with my art.
