Artist's Statement

Like a baseball umpire, award-winning artist, Mary Rogers says, “I call ‘em as I see ‘em.” When she creates an image, Mary paints the detail she sees. “Paintings often evoke emotions or relate a story,” she once told a reporter. “I like impressionist and other styles, but they don’t work for me. They don’t tell my stories, and I don’t want to simply tell a story, I want to show it.”

Traveling is her second love, just behind holding a paint brush - so images of people, places, and objects from around the world find their way to the canvas, and her paintings tell the story of her life. Her fine art oils may be Alaskan landscapes or Thailand seascapes, but her real passion is painting scenes and faces from the American Southwest. “The Southwest is where my heart is,” she says, “and I leave a piece of my heart in every image I paint.”

Mary’s work has been featured in solo shows at galleries and cultural art centers. Her paintings have been featured two times in special presentations at the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, GA.
