Two young cowboys, waiting to ride at a small country rodeo, were taking a break out by the barns. Though they looked to be only in their late teens, and might be secretly nervous, they displayed the quiet confidence of those who try their luck on the backs of broncs and bulls. |

"Pick Me Up at Eight" |
Oil on canvas |
|
As fun as it is to watch a rodeo from the grandstand, the action viewed from the fence behind the arena is even more intense and exciting. So close and at ground level, the action and sounds are intense, with hooves pounding and the dirt flying. After the first eight seconds, there must be that "now what?" moment when the prospect of the dismount looms. Only two options now...one airborne and provided by the beast below and the other a recue by the ever-present pickup man. |
