Artist's Statement |
"...When a viewer of my art is moved, inspired, or reminded of someone or something important to them, it is the greatest compliment I could ever receive. In my paintings I often try to convey a special feeling or relationship between two or more people, or people and the animals we all share our universe with. I feel that animals are an extremely important part of our existence and should be treasured and celebrated by human beings, and that is what I attempt to do through my art."
I am an active member of several art organizations and I regularly participate in national/international shows. I have been honored to receive numerous awards for my work at these competitions. In addition, my work has appeared in publications such as Strokes of Genius 2: The Best of Drawing Light and Shadow and one piece will be on the June 2011 cover of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. “Kindred Spirits”, my award winning design for the Trail of Painted Ponies, was chosen as the 2008 exclusive pony figurine for Dillard’s Department Store. I have had work juried into the 2009 and 2010 Paint America and the 2010 Paint the Parks Competitions.

“The Shepherd of Brie" |
pastel |
|
This pastel piece depicts a Briard working sheep. This fascinating breed was new to me, but was a joy to watch at work in the field. I love the colors and motion in the work. This painting recently won the JAVMA award at the 2011 International Exhibition on Animals in Art and is scheduled to appear on the June 2011 cover of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. |

"Guitar Man" |
pastel on Wallis museum grade archival sandpaper |
|
I wanted this painting to express the passion the guitarist feels for the music he creates as he gets lost in the moment and the song. When creating a portrait it’s nice to be able to incorporate something that is important or special to the person into the work. That was certainly easy to do here. |

"The Boys " |
Pastel |
|
This pastel is an example of the animal portraits I so love to do. Although these two are brothers they each certainly have their own personalities and I wanted to capture that in this piece. The owner felt that I was successful and both she and I were extremely happy with the way the portrait of these two beautiful cats turned out. |

“Tranquil Reflection” |
Pastel |
|
I have recently started a series of “reflection pieces” and this is my favorite, as well as the most challenging one to date. Viewers have fun discovering more surprises in this work the longer they study the reflected images on the passing parade instruments.
