A native Californian, S. Fuess graduated from UCLA with a B.S. in Biology. A research technician turned full time
painter, Fuess balances a passion for color with a lifelong love of animals. Fuess delights in capturing the small
moments and quirkier side of life. She is inspired by bold color and dynamic brushwork over a strong silhouette.
Working in oil paints, she finds that she can push a both a limited Zorn palette and full color palette while
contrasting combinations of impasto brushwork and glazes to play with the effects of light and anatomy of her
subjects. Major influences include Joaquin Sorolla, John Singer Sargent, Rosa Bonheur, Anders Zorn, James
Reynolds, Malcolm Liepke, Greg Manchess and Jill Soukup.
