The Spirit of Women
by Tammy Bality
In the dawn of her years
She’s youthful as spring
Full of energy like a filly
She prances and flirts with her hair flying high
The pattern of life tumbles, moment over moment
At noontime when the sun is high
A fine young maiden
Soars like the hawk
With vision and purpose
The pattern of life repeats itself, one day to the next
When twilight embraces
She becomes the mother
Tending responsibilities and caring for others
Like the harvest moon o’er wheaten fields, she glows with warmth
The pattern of life repeats itself, day after day
She is wisdom now
In the stillness of midnight
Still strong, still radiant, she welcomes her wintertime
Now many creatures come…
Raven shows the waning moon
Hawk reflects her intellect
Horse carries her on a dreamer’s journey
Her spirit is larger than her life
The pattern of life repeats itself, generation after generation
