Art has grown into a totally consuming and wonderful part of my life. I feel so blessed to be able to call myself a professional artist, even with all the challenges that title entails. I have always loved the great outdoors and find plein air painting to be particularly suited to my love of nature. It is such a challenge to try and share with the viewer what I am seeing and feeling with just the use of color on canvas. I will never tire of finding new places and the next season to paint or trying to find that perfect color or correct value.
Of course the occasional, non-environmentally challenged studio painting can be very much a delightful experience as well.
I have always loved the work of the French Impressionists and Post Impressionists but find the vitality of the Russian School of painting to be particularly exciting. I am influenced by the works of Fedor Zakharov, Sergi Bongart and contemporary Don Sahli. Picasso said, “I don’t know what inspiration is, but when it comes I hope it finds me working”.
"For me inspiration comes especially from God’s green earth and I sure do hope I’ll have my paints with me when I am out there."
