A love for the southwest comes from living in Texas and many trips through the southwest, particularly New Mexico and Arizona. The rocks, colors, foliage and architecture of the southwest is mesmerizing. Having painted for over 20 years it did not take long to translate this infatuation into beautiful paintings. A 2009 Mediterranean cruise, as a watercolor instructor, presented new vistas and a challenging new range of painting subjects.
The landscape with its many contours and colors, are a challenge easily met. Capturing the light that will make the painting sing is a constant but invigorating challenge. However, no subject or medium is ignored as this artist works in acrylic, watercolor, pastel, monotypes, block prints, and silk painting in the constant pursuit of making good art.
“Good drawing is fundamental to being a good artist, and the “eye” is an important factor to painting what you see. I find immense joy in presenting the landscape in a two dimensional format. It is a vision as well as a passion.” |
