Keller, Texas
Artist's Statement

The West has greatly influenced my work which is created to shine a light on God’s creation.  My hope is that my colors and subjects express the joy and peace I have when experiencing our natural world through painting.  I have worked to combine the influences of classical traditions with contemporary colorist methods to create a meaningful experience for the viewer.

Early years were spent drawing with my father, an architect and previous student of Frank Lloyd Wright. Drawing materials and color swatches were always around and were a source of inspiration to create. My high school art teacher got me my first job as a portrait artist at age 15 at Six Flags in Houston.  The pay was terrible but the experience was invaluable, just as my teacher said it would be. Later, I graduated from Abilene Christian University with a BFA in Painting, and then continued with post graduate work in art education at the University of Texas at Arlington.  While working in commercial art and the children/gift book markets as an award winning illustrator, selling millions of books, I continued to show fine art painting and studied with many artists including Richard Schmid, Tony Eubanks, Dan Gerhartz, Ovanes Berberian, John Asaro, Scott Christensen, Sherrie McGraw and Frank Mason.  This combination of traditionalists and colorists artists has helped train me to create what I envisioned early on. My professional memberships include WAOW, OPA, NOAPS (signature), AIS, OPS, PSoA, PAPNM, AWA and CAC. I enjoy painting anything that inspires me, which usually includes anything outside.  I especially enjoy painting water and skies.

"Rhythms of Laguna"

Oil

I love painting water, especially the ocean.  The rhythmic movement I saw in the wave patterns and the beautiful emerald green in the sun lit waves is what attracted me to this scene.

Dimensions: 24" H x 36" W

"A Bluebonnet Morning"

oil

This is my tribute to bluebonnet painters everywhere.  The challenge was to create a story using a very traditional Texas subject in a dramatic and unique way. I have resisted painting this subject for a long time, but felt inspired by the beauty of last year’s crop of our state flower around the Texas Hill Country.
