Having come from six generations of Coloradoans, much of my art is a representation of the animals, landscapes and people that I experience there. I am essentially self taught, working primarily in oil and pencil. My background as a veterinary technician has given me the knowledge of animal anatomy necessary to render animals realistically. My experiences as a hunter and conservationist, give me insights into wildlife behavior and habitat. Having spent much of my childhood on a ranch, I also have a great interest and respect for western subject matter. I rarely paint anything I am not familiar with. I want my paintings to always ring true to the viewer. I love to paint and draw the details of my subject. It is very time-consuming, but rewarding. I hope that when someone views one of my paintings, they feel a closer attachment to the animals and the beauty of the West.
