My goal is to engage viewers emotionally by creating representational light filled paintings with intense colors and strong value patterns. I would like the viewer to feel a part of the landscape or as if they could reach out and touch the animals I paint. For me, plein air painting is about recording my emotional reaction to a specific time on a specific day. Each painting begins with a quick intake of breath as I spot a light filled section of the landscape that jumps out and grabs me. It can be the beautiful colors, the textures of the grasses, or the abstract patterns of the shadow and light that appeal to me and call me to paint them. |
