Bold, expressive and colorful horses are often the subject of Colleen’s paintings, but the statement made is about relationships.
“Whenever I travel I’m always looking for horses. “I can’t stay in a place without horses for long before something in me begins to feel out of sync.” Horses are honest and open in their relationships and understanding them is simple. They have great big ears and long tails that are like neon signs displaying their feelings. The position of their head, on the end of stretched out necks, can signify curiosity, security or fear. Their body language is so meaningful and Colleen finds people connect to the emotions portrayed in her paintings.
Colleen has studied under some of the finest artists in formal and informal situations and feels “The artist’s work is the sum of those who have traveled the path before us influencing our design, color choices and technique. We are who we are because of whom we have allowed ourselves to be influenced by.”
