Artist's Statement |
Nancy Harkins excelled in drawing and painting as a young child and has been painting and studying watercolor for over thirty years. Her work has won awards in numerous exhibitions and has been published in the books, The Best of Flower Painting, Seasons of Life and Seasons of Love. In addition to her solo exhibitions, she has shown her work at Gilcrease Musuem and in the Midwest Gathering of Artists event.
Of her work, she says, "In a world often filled with pain, fear, and ugliness, creating beauty in my work is a counterattack! Life may never be easy--but within the absolutes of reality--order, peace, and beauty--do still exist and thrive. My aim is to capture these precious qualities in my work and through them to impart hope to the viewer. Whether it be in a landscape, architectural subject, or portrait, these qualities speak of the glory of creation and of its loving Creator, the very reason for that hope."

This scene caught my eye with its shadow shapes, reflected light, and intriguing clues about the unseen tenant from the potted plants and the bicycle. When I walked back by an hour later, the bicycle had gone. |
