Artist's Statement

I call my work figurative/abstract (that is a figure in an abstract context/style/setting). My figure of choice is often horses. I ride & have shown horses. They are a great image & shape to express a dynamic, moving feeling. Most of my work is acrylic and mixed medium & recently alkyd on brushed metal surfaces.

"Blue Draft Duo III"

I tried to 'rein in' my tendencies towards lots of color with this piece. It was drawn with Prismastix over a painted background which was created by pressing crumbled plastic into thin glazes of paint and ink.

"Friesian Fantasy III"

Alkyd on Aluminum

I wanted to do a composition with running figures and used reference pictures of a local Friesian breeder's horses. The highlights are the reflections created on the metal surface with a grinder which change with the light.
