Artist's Statement

I work predominately in acrylic or pastel, most often exploring western or wildlife themes. I feel that animals are an extremely important part of our existence and should be treasured and celebrated by human beings, and that is what I attempt to do through my art.

I have been honored recently with several awards including those through competitions held by the prestigious Trail of Painted Ponies and the Wyoming Conservation Stamp Competition; and by being selected to work with numerous charitable organizations through my art.

"Devoted"

Pastel

This pastel painting is one I recently completed of a Norwegian Fjord and the young groom that was with him. I thought that the obvious love and emotion that passed between the two in this moment was quite wonderful - and one I wanted to try to capture in this piece.

"Still Life with Chickadee"

Acrylic

This is a bit of a departure for me in that it is a still life painting. However, I was very inspired to paint it after returning from a show and seeing some of the wonderful still life works there. I still wanted to be true to myself and incorporate my western and wildlife work into the piece, so I used a wonderful Indian rug, an antler and an unexpected chickadee in my composition. What a great painting to work on - intriguing, fun, and a new challenge for me!
