Joyce K. Jensen's award-winning watercolors are known for their detailed realism, and the depth and brilliance of their colors.
Although she studied art in her youth, she didn't become a full-time professional artist until her mid-50s, after raising a family and spending a decade as a free-lance writer. Joyce is primarily self-taught as an artist.
Her paintings have been published in International Artist magazine, and Splash 8: Watercolor Discoveries from North Light Books, and appear regularly in national and regional exhibitions. She has been juried into Associate membership in WAOW and in the Indiana Artisan program, and is a Signature member of the Watercolor Society of Indiana.
Artist Statement:
Color is music for the eyes, and I want my paintings to give the viewer a sense of peace and harmony. I'm drawn to the beauty in everyday objects, in particular how light affects color, and how light and color together create form. I primarily work in watercolor because of its luminosity, and the ability to create intense color through layering and glazing. Recently I've begun working in acrylic and oil as well, using the same approach of detailed realism and vivid color. |
