Sarah Kennedy is an artist living in southern Arizona who works in a variety of mediums. Her art ranges from energetic mosaic compositions depicting the rich array of life in the desert southwest to paintings of contemporary cowboys. An enduring aspiration, however, is to create artwork that portrays the beauty and spirit of horses. This is a quest that begin 50 years ago as a child captivated by the drawings of illustrator C.W. Anderson.
Sarah’s background includes 4 years of water color and drawing classes with artist Larry Wollam and more recently, two years of private study in oils with figurative painter Chauncey Homer. Additional art coursework has been at Tucson’s Drawing Studio, the Desert Museum Institute of Art, Santa Theresa tileworks and Tucson Art Academy. Sarah has exhibited at Tohono Chul Gallery, The Arizona Desert Museum Ironwood Gallery, Tuscon Botanical Gardens, Empire Ranch Foundation Show, American Academy of Equine Art and was published in the 2011 edition of Ex Arte Equinus 4, produced by Art Horse Magazine.
Sarah specializes in equine portraits. When not painting, she is usually found at Lola’s Place, a ranch in Tucson. She has painted most of the 30 horses and two donkeys that live there, including her horse Blue.
