Artist's Statement |
Berna is an artist-instructor whose work hangs in private collections across the nation. She has lived most of her life in close proximity to the mountains. Berna is inspired by the awesome beauty that the western states provide with the very diverse terrain. She has an advantage of living on a farm with her husband, Leonard, where they raise cattle. This combination of beautiful country and cattle is what creates the interest in western and wildlife art.
Art training started at an early age for Berna, her mother had a flair for drawing and she corrected Berna’s childhood drawings and helped her understand the sheer joy a good pencil and a simple piece of paper could bring. As Berna advanced into painting she had exposure to Denny Neville, Mel Fillerup, and a number of other western, wildlife and landscape artists. This exposure refined her work and gave her many ideas about techniques which have resulted in state and national awards. |
