Artist's Statement

My love for nature and respect for its different moods began in coastal Georgia where I was born. My inspirations are from myths and cultural symbols repeated throughout history connecting disparate people. My style reflects my belief that life needs to be celebrated with whimsy and attitude. I use the flow of lines and surface patterns to create positive and negative spaces in my sculpture. This creates movement and balance between the parts. Everything has serious and whimsical dimensions. I see these characteristics in the uninhibited play of wild animals and children's quiet moments of introspection.

"La Bamba - Una Poca de Gracia"

Bronze

This is a Navajo-Churro ram dancing "La Bamba". The song states, "In order to dance the Bamba one must possess a bit of grace."

Navajo-Churro sheep decended from the Churra, an ancient Iberian breed, prized by the Spanish for hardiness, adaptability and fecundity and were the very first breed of domesticated sheep in the New World.

"Spirit Totem"

Bronze

The totem was inspired by the carvings, paintings, and myths of a number of native American cultures. Her travels have taken her to Southeast Alaska, the American and Canadian Northwest coast, and Baffin Islands in the Canadian Arctic.

The totem intertwines a snake, a dragon, a bear, a lion and a ram.
