Dawn’s vision includes re-imaging Western themes to appeal to contemporary generations. She is intrigued by the mytho-romantic power contained in these symbols; iconic motifs that retain a whimsical quality have a particular allure for this fifth generation Texas. She seeks to re-interpret the Old West through a lens of contemporary contrasts and bold colors to create an impression both fresh and faraway. A psychotherapist by day, Dawn is fascinated by the power that subtle nuance has to evoke personality into faceless figures or inanimate objects.
Dawn has created art since she was four years old, but waited until her kids were (almost) grown before seriously pursuing a career as an oil painter. She has been in several juried shows and has received first- and third-place ribbons, a merit award, a public works commission by the City of Denton, and in 2012 sold three pieces to Texas Woman's University for their permanent collection. In addition to WAOW, Dawn is a member of the Visual Arts Society of Texas.
