Artist's Statement

With the good fortune of growing up in Colorado and living most of her life in the Colorado mountains, Patrice has always felt most comfortable outside in nature. As a naturalist and outdoors woman, she finds plein air painting a true complement to her time spent outside. Likewise, her paintings reflect her understanding of the landscape, birds and wildlife, and these subjects dominate her work.
Her representational paintings have been honored with numerous awards from National and International shows, and, for two years in a row her plein air paintings were selected for event posters at the 2010 Wyoming Plein Air and 2011 Prairie to Peaks Plein Air.

Patrice is a signature member of the Plein Air Artists of Colorado, and an associate member of the American Impressionist Society and the Oil Painters of America. She is represented by fine art galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and Cheyenne, Wyoming.

"Reflections"

This painting was created en plein air in Rocky Mountain National Park during the Paint the Rockies paintout in Estes Park, Colorado. I arrived at Sprague Lake in early morning with a fellow painter to capture the light.

I spend a lot of time bird-watching and found these cormorants at the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. My resulting painting was juried into the prestigious international Birds in Art exhibit.
