Oil painter, Ginger Whellock, paints the western landscape with great sympathy. In the early 1970s’, she moved from her home in Chicago to a remote cattle ranch in Montana. Surrounded by mountains, a huge sky and miles from civilization, she became enchanted with the western life style and landscape. Today, many adventures, career changes and moves later, she captivates us with her sun drenched, well designed, serene landscape paintings.
“Chronicling the landscape for future generations has never been my intention. I want to convince you, through my paintings, to protect this place for everyone, forever. I will paint this beautiful Earth for you to enjoy, but we are all responsible for its care and preservation.
I approach painting with oils, my medium of choice, in a loose to gradually more defined painting technique. I attempt to bring the focal point to attention with high contrast and detail while leaving other areas less defined, brushy and lower in value. As I contemplate the process of the painting, I think about how I will make it come to life, provide a place for the viewer to ‘go’ into the painting thereby allowing you to join me in the journey and convey to the you a sense of peace and hope."
"I paint to keep myself centered, to keep growing artistically and intellectually and to give you pleasure.”
