Artist's Statement

I love experiencing, photographing, and painting the Western Landscape. I paint in an impressionistic, representational style. It's really all about the amazing natural light in the Western States. I love the play of warm sunlight & cool blue shadows on fresh snow, rock cliffs, lakes & streams, meadow grasses and dense pine forests, as well as on the rolling contours of the Sierra Foothills. And what landscape artist could resist the blaze of Aspens in the fall!

"Aspen Trail"

Oil

I was walking along a fishing trail on the shore of Silver Lake, in the June Lake Loop area, through an Aspen grove. The back lit leaves in fall color and the dancing tree trunks were saying "paint me!" I tried to capture these impressions in my painting.

"Sierra Turquoise"

Oil

While I was doing a photo shoot of the Rock Creek area I was inspired by the symmetry of this view. The rocks in the foreground framed the turquoise lake and presented the forest slopes in the middle ground, which in turn framed the granite peaks in the background.
