Heidi Harner

Lafayette, Indiana

Artist's Statement

Born in Oklahoma, the youngest child in an Air Force family, artist Heidi has lived in many places throughout her life. She considers it a privilege to have lived in many parts of the U.S and experienced much of Europe, but the places dearest to her are in the American West. In the badlands of North Dakota, Heidi was drawn to horses. During her younger years in Colorado, Heidi's family, with dogs in tow, often spent weekends camping in the Rockies.

Her paintings naturally echo those memories as she primarily chooses horses, dogs and sunlit nature scenes as her subjects. Heidi is published in GaWaNi Pony Boy's book, "Of Women and Horses: More Reflections of the Magical Bond," published by Bowtie Press, 2005, and in Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion Magazine Christmas 2003 edition.

Heidi is a member of the CCA Gallery in Zionsville, IN, and the Wabash Valley Watercolor Society. Heidi resides in Indiana and works at home in her Sweetwater Art Studio. She and her husband, Brad, share their home with his daughter and two amusing, lovable dogs. They have future plans of moving to the country to make room for a few horses.

"A Gathering "

Acrylic on Canvas
I was very intrigued by these horses’ interactions with eachother. These are Nokotas, living at the Nokota Horse Conservancy in North Dakota. The horses’ lineage has been traced back to Sitting Bull’s ponies. Framed with a solid black wood frame.
Dimensions: 16"H x 20"W
$450 framed

"Explorer"

Acrylic on Canvas
This painting is one in a series entitled, “Sun Dogs.” I love this quote: “Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring—it was peace.” – Milan Kundera.
Dimensions: 14"H x 11"W
$200 framed
