Loretta Schapansky-Phillips

F†. Worth, Texas

Artist's Statement

I began drawing and painting as a child in Weatherford, Okla. and continued formal art studies at Okla. University, Scripps Institute of Art and the Ft. Worth Art Center.

Numerous honors and awards have been presented to me nationally and internationally. Some of these are: Best Oil Trophy, T.P.P.A. 1961; Original Art Showcase 1989, Prestige Gallery, Toronto, Ontario; One Man Show, World Trade Center, Dallas 1990; Featured Artist for Agriculture Products Show in the Okla. State Capital Rotunda, 1991.

I have been featured in "Artists of Texas", Vol. II; "Wildlife Art News Profile "1988-1989; "American Artist Survey of Leading Contemporaries" by Les Krantz,1991.

Teaching Art at Tarrant County College. workshops and classes has blessed me with many student friends. After the loss of my husband of 36 years I met Tom Phillips, also a professional artist, from my hometown where we had taken art lessons from the same teacher as children some 55 years earlier. We got married and formed "Tom and Loretta's Art of the West".

I love the varieties of life, the ever-changing beauty in God's Creation. I seek to communicate on canvas these moments of joy with messages of hope to others in the midst of todays world of perplexities and problems.
