Artist's Statement

I grew up in Texas on a working ranch. Living on the ranch, there was always an abundance of horses to ride. My love of horses was very strong, and so was my love of sketching them. The transition from sketching to oil painting was quite natural. With oils being my medium of choice, I am able to give attention to detail to create more realistic renderings. Since moving to Montana it gives me the opportunity to enjoy what Montana has to offer, whether it is a cowboy on horseback or mountains and wildlife.

“War Paint” won the Best of Show Award and “Wallenda” won the People Choice Award at the Bigfork Art and Cultural Center in Bigfork Montana. “Wallenda” was highlighted in HORSE & RIDER (April ’03). “Durkkhal” an Akhal-Teke Stallion was the first artwork to ever appear on the cover of THE MONTANA HORSE TRADER.

I am also a member of the Equine Art Guild, and Wildlife Artist Association.

"All Tater’d Out"

Inspiration provided by my wonderful paint, Marty. The rider’s name is Tater, a Assiniboine Sioux. Authentic tack was made by the tribal elders and Tater. After the photo shoot, Marty just looked like he was all tater’d out.

Inspiration was provided by my nephew Chad Cruise. In Texas, he enjoys doing a lot of cowboy re-enactments and does educational cowboy programs for foreign exchange students. Truly, Chad is a cowboy at heart.
