I love to paint the landscapes, flowers, birds and animals of the Southwest and Midwest. My realistic oil paintings develop from things I see that make me think “WOW – look at that! I want each painting to convey this feeling of discovery to the viewer. I am attracted to small details, so the paintings include the cactus spines, insects, and other features that people often overlook.
My subjects are usually shown in their surroundings since this is often what creates the story behind the painting. The paintings are composed to emphasize the colors and structure of the plants, and the contrasts between the beauty of the fragile flowers and the menacing spines, and especially the light which intensifies colors and creates dramatic shadows.
