Barbara Ann Speed Jones lives in Corsicana, Texas with her husband, Mark. They have one daughter and three grandchildren who are a great inspiration for her artwork. She is both self taught and trained in Classical Realism. Barbara has studied with several classical artists and approaches every new subject as an opportunity to learn. She loves to paint in the Chiaroscuro style. Although Barbara specializes in the still life and portrait, she also enjoys painting the landscape. She believes the challenges in painting are endless and the journey makes life interesting. Barbara's work has been accepted into the Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, American Plains Artists, American Women Artists and Women Artist of the West Shows and has won numerous awards. Her work is represented by the Texas Art Gallery in Dallas, the Paulson Gallery in Clifton, Texas and will soon be in a new gallery opening in Houston, Texas. Barbara is a Signature Member of Women Artist of the West, Artists of Texas and the Associated Creative Artists of Dallas.
The beauty of the ordinary is what I try to capture in my paintings. We are surrounded by unlimited opportunities to share with others the unique qualities of color, light and form that are part of our everyday lives. Too often we overlook the simple beauty of God's creations or pass them by. Whether it's the quiet glow of a sunlit morning, the softness of a cloudy afternoon or the interplay of colors and form in a still life arrangement--I try to capture in my paintings the unique light and atmosphere of my subjects.
"...I work from life, and I want viewers to feel like they're seeing what I'm seeing--on that day, in that place, in that way."
