My artistic gift is part of who I am, and pervades my life whatever I am doing. I am always observing and ready to capture a special moment. My work is realistic, but it is not my intent to exactly reproduce a photograph. Painting is for allowing the viewer to see passages of light, pattern, heightened color, and edited subject matter in order to communicate a creative idea or impression.
As an artist I have spent many years painting in watercolor, acrylic, gouache, and mixed media. I enjoy drawing in pen and ink, which was my primary focus when I majored in Art in college. Now I am passionate about using soft pastels to capture animals and depict landscapes. The luminosity, three dimensional depth, and the speed at which I am able to show the visual qualities of the subject are keeping me absorbed with pastels. In addition, I can paint them at any location, which allows me the freedom of moving outside my studio. My watercolors have always been very realistic and detailed, while my pastel landscapes are more impressionistic.
It is an honor to be awarded Signature Membership in WAOW. I was juried into the Pastel Society of America as an Associate Member in October of 2013. I hold Signature Memberships in the Colorado Watercolor Society, Pikes Peak Watercolor Society, and Wyoming Watercolor Society. My work has been selected for international, national, state, regional, and local shows in Colorado and other states in watercolors and pastels.
