Sharon Markwardt is a fourth generation Texan and a life-long artist. The colorful style for which she is known emerged just a few years ago, and paralleled her entrance into horsemanship, with its associated injuries and challenges. Emboldened by what she has overcome, Sharon enjoys pushing her colors and designs while retaining realism and attention to detail. Animals of the West have become her favorite subjects. “I feel a connection to these creatures, and I love it when I can express their personalities and emotion, their soulfulness. So much comes through in the eyes. When people tell me my work makes them smile—what could be better?”
Sharon earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, won numerous awards for her work, and was invited to the museum show, “Cowgirl Up!” in 2012. Publications include Southwest Art, Western Art Collector, Art of the West, and more. She is represented by Waxlander Gallery in Santa Fe, NM; Your Private Collection in Granbury, TX; and Vertical Peaks Fine Art in Jackson Hole, WY.
