Jeanne Hyland

Burbank, California

Artist's Statement

Jeanne was a natural and a naturalist from the start. Art awards, drawing, painting & even sculpting in school. After receiving a BFA (magna cum laude) in sculpture and watercolor from the University of New Hampshire, she went on to study at the École de Beaux Arts in St. Etienne, France. A 25-year professional design career cross-fertilized into her fine art work, producing a strong sense of design, composition, 3-dimensional form.

In her painting and sculpture, Jeanne combines a love of the beauty & energy of nature with an intense palette and technical skill. Her work is vibrant, compelling, and passionate.

She is included in How Did You Paint That? 100 ways to paint still life & florals (vol.2) ”, a recently published book by International Artist Magazine.

"Cyclamenia"

Watercolor
Flower "portrait". These flowers were so interesting as they danced & waved in the winter air. An unusual "ruffled" petal on these makes them feel like dancing skirts. Cyclamens just may be my favorite winter flowers here in California.
Dimensions: 22"H x 15"W

"Banker's Widow "

Watercolor
People "portrait". My other love is painting and sculpting people. My model for this portrait is dressed in authentic period costume. And the matching pair to this piece is the "Widow Maker"—an outlaw looking her way!
Dimensions: 22"H x 15"W
$895 framed

"Desert Delight "

Watercolor
A night blooming cactus is hard to catch in bloom. When you do spot one, they are truely amazing forms. Such a delicate contrast to the prickly thorns of the plant.
Dimensions: 11"H x 15"W
$395 framed

"Prairie Sun "

Watercolor
This variety of rudbeckia (Black-eyed-Susan) is large and sunny. The spread of the petals in broad sunlight caught my eye. It's sure to brighten up anyone's day!
Dimensions: 15"H x 22"W
SOLD!
