Artist's Statement

Because the artist grew up in an artist's household, the creative process was never a mystery to her. Many of the lessons from her childhood experiences in Carmel and Carmel Valley were of tremendous benefit when she started painting seriously in her early thirties. She studied the impressionists, both American and European, and found her closest analog in the California painters of the California plein-air movement. She paints a range of subject matter, but remains a serious student of landscape, combining her interest in fishing and the wilderness with her love of painting, particularly outdoors.

"Dawn, La Quinta"

Oil
I was painting on a recent winter weekend with my friend Elin Pendleton. When she went off with a group to paint golf courses at 6am, I stumbled around La Quinta, trying to find a cup of coffee...and found this scene instead. Later, I realized that this is the fairgrounds where the La Quinta Art Festival is held every March. Dawn is beautiful in the desert, even with impending rain. Painted plein air.

"Monsoon Morning"

Oil
This is my favorite morning view of Hawley Lake – its July, the 8:30 am breeze is just starting to riffle the water, the monsoon clouds are already boiling up on the horizon. By 10 am, we will be ducking the thunderstorms, but in the meantime, peace rules. Painted entirely plein air, and I loved every second of it.

This beautiful area has recently been threatened - in 2002 by the Rodeo-Chediski Fire, and again this year by the Knishba Fire.

Dimensions: 17H"x 20W"
$950 framed

"Rocks at Leo Carillo Beach "

Oil
I have painted at Leo Carillo Beach off and on since I began painting thirty years ago. It is always fascinating, and these massive rocks marching out to sea are particularly irresistible.
Dimensions: 24H"x 40W"
$2,100 framed
